This post is all about hacks for quick migraine relief.
If you’re a fellow migraine girlie – or gentleman, I’m so sorry to share your pain. I’m sure you’ve searched high and low over the years trying to figure out how to get rid of a migraine fast. Over the years, I’ve come across a few random hacks for migraine relief that might seem strange or ordinary on their own, but together I’ve found they help so much to kick a migraine quickly.

Step 1: Migraine Medicine: Finding Your Drug of Choice
Choosing The Best Medication for Quick Migraine Relief
I know I know, this might go without saying, but obvious as it seems, this is the first step on your journey to functioning in spite of a migraine trying to ruin your day. When it comes to choosing your drug of choice, we have options.
I used to be an Extra Strength Ibuprofen girl through and through, but to my horror, after starting a new medication, I had to bid my tried and true painkiller fairwell due to some negative interactions.
Since then, I usually go between two options, depending on how much caffeine I’ve had that day. I’m more sensitive to caffeine, so if I’ve already hit my daily limit (lol) I will opt for Extra Strength Tylenol.
Otherwise Excedrin will do the trick. However, I’m happy to report that Amazon has an amazing ‘dupe’ for Excedrin that is just as effective at treating a migraine for a fraction of the cost.
These Geltabs go down much easier than the other migraine meds I’ve tried and they’re a fraction of the cost and just as effective – if not better!
As you probably know, the key to quick migraine relief before it ruins your day is to take some medication the SECOND you start to feel even the TINIEST bit of one coming on.
Step 2: It’s the Eye of the Tiger Balm
That’s right. I told you to put the balm on. If it worked for Kramer, it’ll work for you.
Yes, the answer is Tiger Balm.
No, don’t put Tiger Balm in your eye.

Seinfeld references aside, of all of these tips, this one is the real kicker. You’re gonna take a glob or two of this eastern medicine magical balm and put it on your neck, temples, and traps and promptly move on to Step 3.
But first: a quick but IMPORTANT note on Tiger Balm. There are a few different kinds. Please PLEASE get the clear version which I have linked below. DO NOT get the red version as it WILL stain your clothes.

This clear Tiger Balm does wonders for sore muscles in general, but is also amazing for migraine relief.
Now, moving on to Step 3
Step 3: Roll Out the Heating Pad
As soon as you’ve got your Tiger Balm on, roll out a heating pad on a flat surface – ideally, your bed, but a couch will also do.
The goal of this is to have the whole heating pad all along your back but the top of it curved over your traps and onto your neck.
If you have a pillow available, prop up the top of the heating pad on the base of the pillow so the heating pad is touching your neck when you lay your head back on the pillow.
Step 4: Put on Your Cooling Caps
One of the best migraine Relief Products
I heard a girl on social media say once that the best way to beat a migraine is to confuse it by exposing it to a bunch of different temperatures, and from personal experience, I could not agree more.
That’s the strategy behind this step. With the cooling Tiger Balm on your neck, the heating pad on both your neck and back, the next step is to put a frozen migraine cap on your head as eye mask.
This gel eye mask goes in the freezer and once it’s cold, is the perfect solution for tired, puffy eyes, or migraine relief.
Step 5: Lay Low and Wait It Out

This might seem counter intuitive because this article is pitching a quick fix. It is – but hear me out.
When I follow all of these steps to a tee and give myself 20-30 minutes laying in a dark room with no noise or screens, I feel so much better by the end of it and even better than that, I’m actually FUNCTIONAL.
My migraine veterans know that if you don’t act quickly to treat a migraine within the first few minutes, it can get worse and worse and for some people can end up lasting hours if not days.
So, instead of pushing through and having a migraine settle in for the long haul, take a half an hour, follow these steps and you’ll be on your feet and about your business before you know it.
Consider it an investment. 😉
I hope these tips help you as much as they’ve helped me. To all my fellow migraine sufferers – I wish you good health and pain relief. Godspeed.
